Coronavirus in NYC: Who to Call if you Have Coronavirus Symptoms

This post is for those New Yorkers who have Coronavirus Symptoms or those who know someone that has the symptoms and don’t know what to do, who to call and how to act.

This handy guide is based on the NYC Health System‘s advice here.

Coronavirus Symptoms: if you are having trouble breathing, call 911

Call 911 now if you have problems breathing or have other symptoms that require immediate medical attention.

If you’ve been having Coronavirus Symptoms for more than 3 or 4 days…

Call 311 if you’ve been feeling the Coronavirus symptoms such as (to name some): cough, fever, weak body, shortness of breath, sore throat, loss of smell/appetite… They’ll be able to assist you with advice to help you determine what to do, if you need treatment or testing or if you should stay home.

Avoid going to the ER (Emergency Room) unless…

you are severely ill! Try to skip the ER or Doctor’s office to prevent exposure to other people. If you feel sick, please stay home.

What to do if you were in contact with someone that has Coronavirus (COVID-19)

You will likely be asked to self-isolate or schedule a time for further evaluation or testing if you were in touch with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 or who has been potentially exposed to COVID-19.

Most symptoms can be managed by staying at home, without the need to go to the hospital or the Doctor’s office or the ER. Just please stay home and limit your exposure to others so that nobody else gets sick in case you have Coronavirus 🙂

What if I can’t pay for Coronavirus (COVID-19) treatment or what about my immigration status?

NYC will provide care no matter your ability to pay or immigration status.

Coronavirus Testing Guidelines

At this moment they are not testing people for COVID-19 who are not severely ill.

Check the Coronavirus Testing Guidelines here by NYC Health Hospitals.

Can I go to a NYC Hospital?

Check the New visitor policy to NYC Hospitals. The NY State Department of Health has issued new visitation policies to reduce the spread of Coronavirus.

Staying home can save lives! Stay safe and healthy & Stay home even if you don’t have symptoms.

How to protect yourself & others from COVID-19?

  • Please stay home even if you don’t have any Coronavirus symptoms! it’s the only way to reduce the spread of Coronavirus!
  • Keep at least 6 feet (2 meters) between you and others.
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap & water for at least 20 seconds!
  • If you sneeze or cough, cover your mouth or nose with a tissue or sleeve.

Hi there :) I'm Jess and I came to NYC to pursue my dream and I feel I'm living it every day. New York is magical and you have to be open to everything because you never know who is sitting next to you on the subway or behind you in the line of the supermarket. I decided to create this blog about NYC because I realized how many powerful tips would have helped me if I knew them before coming to the city from someone who was living in NY! So I thought that it would be awesome to share with you some tips about New York from a New Yorker. I'm going to keep updating this blog so stay tuned :)
