Tips to Get Ready for the Blizzard

When there’s a blizzard coming to New York, there are some things you can do to get ready for the winter storm. How ready are you for the NYC blizzard?

Some tips to be prepared for the blizzard
Having food

Be sure to have no-cook food that doesn’t require the use of electricity if there’s a loss of power. Stock up with cans.

A flashlight, batteries, water

Remember that your phone can be used as a flashlight 😉

Water bottled and fill tub.

Medications
Cash on hand

To be prepared if there’s a power outage.

Check terrace drains

To make sure that they are clear.

Clothing and blankets

If you lose power, you may lose heat too!

Make sure to charge everything that can be charged

Phones, computers, laptops, battery packs, charging cases to extend your battery life if needed.

Have a list of important phone numbers written down on a paper
Report power problems right away

If you use CONED, at 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633).

If you lose power

Turn off lights and unplug appliances so circuits don’t overload when power is restored.

Stay clear of downed power lines

They may be live and dangerous.

Use candles and lanterns carefully

Keep them away from drafts, flammable materials, and children

Avoid being on the street / roads

Unless it’s really necessary.

Those with a balcony: Bring  / secure loose furniture and items (such as plants)

As a safety precaution.

Stay positive and enjoy the snow in New York City! It’s beautiful and magical. Go out to explore the city empty and full of snow 🙂

New York is magical and you have to be open to everything because you never know who is sitting next to you on the subway or behind you in the line of the supermarket. I decided to create this blog about NYC because I realized how many powerful tips would have helped me if I knew them before coming to the city from someone who was living in NY! So I thought that it would be awesome to share with you some tips about New York from a New Yorker. I'm going to keep updating this blog so stay tuned :)
