Summer Streets: When NYC Streets go Car-Free
Summer Streets is an awesome annual event in which some of the main NYC streets are closed to cars and opened to the public to walk, run and bike. Nearly 7 miles of streets in Manhattan will go car-free.
It’s an event created by NYC DOT (New York City Department of Transportation).
When is Summer Streets?
It takes place on the first 3 Saturdays of August, every summer.
Summer Streets 2019 will be on:
- Saturday, August 3
- Saturday, August 10
- Saturday, August 17
What time is Summer Streets?
From 7am to 1pm.
Who is this event for?
For people of all ages and ability levels, including families with kids!
Where is Summer Streets?
From Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park along Lafayette St. & Park Avenue.
- Starts at Lafayette & Chambers St.
- Ends at East 72nd St. & Central Park.
Summer Streets Activities & Rest Stops
All activities are free of charge and for people of all ages and ability levels.

You’ll find 5 “REST STOPS” with activities and entertainment. The rest stops include a water slide, fitness classes, a dog park, arts & crafts workshops, walking tours to explore NYC Parks & NYC buildings.
Foley Square Rest Stop:
by the Brooklyn Bridge.
Soho Rest Stop:
Lafayette & Spring St.
Astor Place Rest Stop:
Lafayette St. & E 8th St. It has a dog park.
Midtown Rest Stop
Park Ave. & E 25th St.
Free food samples & beverages at this stop!
Uptown Rest Stop:
Park Ave & E 51st St.
Free bike rentals at this stop!

CLIF KIDS BICYCLE PLAYGROUND
Astor Place Plaza | Astor Place & Lafayette St.
Kids under 12 will enjoy a fun, free-flowing 2-wheel experience in the CLIF KIDS Bicycle Playground. It will have easy to navigate features and tunnels and will allow young riders to work on their bike handling skills in a unique, playful space. Kids will also get a FREE Sample of the latest Z-Bar Filled flavors (as well as nut-free product options).
CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF THE ARTS:
Aug. 10, 2019. Paper Chain of Kindness: Using paper and drawing materials, commit to an act of kindness to add to our collaborative chain. Then, create your own bookmark as a reminder!
KID FITNESS ZONE
51st St. between Park and Madison Ave.
Specially designed for Kids 2 to 12. To participate in the Kid Fitness Zone, a parent or guardian must sign a safety and photo waiver. More below:
The Movement Creative | Aug. 4: Jump, vault, climb, crawl and learn Parkour alongside The Movement Creative.
PopFit Kids | Aug. 10: challenge yourself on an urban functional obstacle course hosted by Pop Fit Kids. Kids under 3 must by accompanied by an adult, Kids over 3 must be monitored by an adult at all times. Toddlers & infants not yet walking won’t be able to participate. Wear comfortable snakers! Closed-toed shoes recommended!
NYC Parks Play Mobile | Aug. 17: work out right on the streets of New York City with the NYC Parks Fitness’ Play Mobile.
Bubble Show
