Best of Broadway: What Broadway Show Should I See?
A very common question. There are so many Broadway shows that you won’t have enough time to see them all! You wanna make sure to see at least one of the best Broadway shows and choose the right one for you (since they are also expensive!).
Going to a Broadway show is a wonderful experience and you won’t regret it. There are shows that have been running for years and some others that are on Broadway temporary (15 weeks or a few months). You have musicals and plays.
Seeing a Musical vs. a Play
If English isn’t your first language and you have trouble understanding long dialogues, I would recommend seeing a musical.

Many people ask me before coming to New York: WHAT BROADWAY SHOW DO YOU RECOMMEND?
IF IT’S YOUR FIRST TIME IN NEW YORK
The Lion King
If it’s your first time in NY and you’ve never seen a Broadway Show, I always recommend (and people never regret!) to see THE LION KING. It’s a “typical” Broadway show in terms of staging, music, dance with an amazing production.
It’s a musical that’s been on Broadway for years and still very successful. One of the best Broadway shows. A must-see. The kind of musical that you don’t usually see in another place.

Now, depending on your taste, there are some other amazing Broadway musicals that are great too.
Phantom of the Opera
PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (a classic). “Far beneath the majesty and splendor of the Paris Opera House, hides the Phantom in a shadowy existence. Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, the love he holds for his beautiful protégée Christine Daaé is so strong that even her heart cannot resist”.

Wicked
WICKED is another musical that became one of the classics on Broadway too!
The untold true story of the Witches of Oz.

Which one out of those 3?
I would recommend The Lion King as a first option (or Phantom if you are dying to see that classic) and Wicked as a second option.

IF YOU’RE TRAVELING WITH KIDS
For kids:
- THE LION KING
- ANASTASIA
- SCHOOL OF ROCK| Through Jan. 20, 2019!
- ALADDIN
- FROZEN THE MUSICAL
- HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD: Be aware that this show is NOT a musical, it’s a play. So if your kids do not speak English really well (or if English is not their native language), they won’t be able to understand what they say. But the staging of this show is AWESOME.
- KING KONG Opening in October 2018!
I would recommend The Lion King as a first option. Then, School of Rock if you’re traveling with teens and Spongebob if you’re with little kids because it’s a very colorful show.

IF YOU’VE ALREADY SEEN THOSE BROADWAY MUSICALS or WANT TO EXPLORE MORE
If you want to go beyond the “classics” on Broadway (The Lion King, Wicked or Phantom of the Opera) you should check all the musicals that will be running when you come to NYC.
Some of them (with great reviews) are:
Hamilton
HAMILTON: a big Broadway hit and one of the best Broadway shows of the moment! The show was inspired by the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton, by historian Ron Chernow. It’s very hard to get tickets! It’s one of the most expensive Broadway Shows. Try to book your tickets as soon as you can (months in advance if possible).
If you’re dying to see this show and there’s no availability or you can’t afford the pricey tickets, you can always try to see if you can win the $10 lottery tickets.

Kinky Boots
KINKY BOOTS: with music and lyrics by Tony, Emmy and Grammy-winner Cyndi Lauper and a book by Tony-winner Harvey Fierstein. Great and fun show! One of the best Broadway shows at this moment.

The Book of Mormon
THE BOOK OF MORMON: a religious satire musical from the creators of South Park.

Dear Evan Hansen
DEAR EVAN HANSEN: a new American musical about life and the way we live it. It’s been a very successful show since the opening!
